ISMTA Competitions

All ISMTA competitions begin at the district level, with the exception of Collegiate Piano. The statewide college level competition is held during ISMTA’s annual conference. Illinois is divided into five districts. Students compete in the district associated with their teacher’s local chapter. If a teacher does not belong to a local association, they may enter students in the district closest to where the teacher resides. District auditions are early to mid-October. Junior and Senior division winners from each district advance to the ISMTA finals held in the fall at the annual ISMTA conference.

  • ISMTA competition is open to any student who studies with a member of ISMTA or a teacher who has paid the non-member fee of $150.
  • Each district conducts its own preliminary audition round. Illinois is divided into five geographical districts.
  • Students enter in the district in which their teacher resides.
  • All applications should be sent to the appropriate district chair (see below).
  • Deadline for all ISMTA competition entries: September 14, 2016
