ISMTA Piano Competition is a single tier competition offered at 2 different locations, ISMTA Piano Competition NORTH and ISMTA Piano Competition SOUTH. Each competition is run independently with separate chairs and winners.
Students compete in the competition location associated with their teacher’s local chapter. If a teacher does not belong to a local chapter, they may enter students in the location nearest to the teacher’s teaching residence or college/university. The division between NORTH and SOUTH is roughly Highway Interstate 80.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ISMTA Piano Competitions will once again be held as Video Competition for Solo Piano only. Duet Competitions are canceled again this year.
September 24 – October 8, 2021: Video Submission Period
October 8 - 28, 2021: Judges Evaluation Period
October 28 - 31, 2021: Winners Decision
November 1 - 3, 2021: Winners Announcements and return of Judge Comments Sheets
Virtual Winners Recital Webpage will be available by November 5, 2021
AGE DIVISION REQUIREMENTS AND FEES
The following age division requirements are based on the grade entering 2021-22 school year and are offered independently at ISMTA North and ISMTA South Piano Competitions. Please click below for more detailed information on each age division.
- Primary: Grades 1-3
- Elementary: Grades 4-6
- Junior: Grades 7-9
- Senior: Grades 10-12
- Collegiate*: full or part time undergraduate or 1st & 2nd year Master’s music student
*ISMTA has the discretion to combine North and South for low enrollments and/or separate undergraduate and Master’s students with higher enrollments.
